Frequently asked questions

When is the next litter of puppies due?

We plan to have one litter of puppies this summer 2021, as well as at least two litters in 2022. We have over 75 families on our wait-list, so we have decided to close it temporarily. We will update our website and social media when we decide to re-open the wait-list again. Feel free to connect with us on our Contact page.

How do I know if Golden Retrievers are the right breed for my family and lifestyle?

Great question! Golden Retrievers are one of the most popular breeds in America, for good reason. According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), the top three characteristics for this breed are friendly, intelligent and devoted. They aim to please their owners and are great family dogs! This breed has a lot of enthusiasm and energy, as well, and requires daily activity. For more information on the breed and what to expect, you can visit this page on akc.org.

How do I pay for the puppy?

For the deposit, we will accept a check sent in the mail (address available upon request), direct deposit from your financial institution to our account, or a Venmo payment (@OakTreeGoldens). If using Venmo, we ask that you make a $0.50 security deposit as a way to ensure that the money is being sent to the correct account before sending the full amount. To pay the remaining balance after the deposit, we prefer cash or a cashiers check in person when you pick up the puppy.

When can I come visit the puppies?

We accept visitors to meet the puppies when they are 6 weeks old. Please be sure to schedule something with us ahead of time. You can request a visit by filling out the online form on the Contact page of our website, or by emailing me directly at oaktreegoldens@gmail.com. We don't accept visits prior to 6 weeks since the opportunity for young pups to pick up infectious diseases is increased with all new contacts. Their immune systems are building, so at this time, the moms and pups will remain separate from all outside traffic.

After purchasing a puppy from you, can I breed her/him?

We want to ensure that we help bring healthy puppies into the world, so we would require you to get your puppy tested through the OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) for his/her hips, elbows, eyes and heart before breeding. We will certify the puppies with an AKC limited registration. Once OFA testing is complete, we will lift the limited registration with AKC. Please let us know upon purchasing if you are interested in breeding your puppy so we can discuss this in person.

How do I recieve my puppy?

We will schedule a time for you to come pick up your puppy from us in the Boise, Idaho area. We will provide our home address on the contract. In some circumstances we may be able to meet you at a location closer to your home. For the next two litters only, we will be delivering puppies to Olympia, WA. If you get a puppy from one of those litters (winter 2020 or summer 2021), you will have the option to pick up your puppy from Olympia and we will provide the home address on the contract.

Will the puppies be de-wormed & have their first set of shots when I take him/her home?

When you take the puppies home at 8 weeks old they will have their first set of shots and three rounds of de-worming completed. They will also have an individual vet exam completed.

Does the stud dog (male dog) also have testing done?

Laddie is the stud dog we use for Bella. He has had comprehensive OFA testing and Paw Print Genetic Testing and has passed all tests with normal - good scores. We love the gentle and handsome Laddie! You can read more about Laddie here.

How much do the puppies cost? Is there a deposit?

Our puppies for the families on our current wait-list are $1,950 each. We ask for a $200 deposit (non-refundable) to reserve a puppy for you. The remaining balance is due in full when you pick up your puppy at 8 weeks old. *See "How do I pay for the puppy" in FAQ's for instructions on the deposit.
